We've all been there, right? You're out somewhere having a good time when suddenly—WHAM!—you remember something so life-shatteringly important that it kills your vibe in an instant.
That seemed to be the case Sunday night at the Academy Awards, when Jennifer Garner's expression went from heartily applauding the night's festivities to drop-jawed-stunned-into-silence-and-deep-thought in an instant.
One careful viewer, going by the handle Bobby Finger, leaped into action and tweeted a call for answers:
Twitter was only too happy to oblige:
"I have never seen Ben and Batman in the same place at the same time!"— Michael C. Jacobs (@SeattleMicky) March 5, 2018
Most of us could relate to Garner's sudden switch in temperament, drawing on our own experiences and perspective. In fact, the 13 going on 30 actress' unguarded moment has become something of a Rorschach test.
Theories seem to reveal more about the viewer than what Garner may have actually been thinking:
Oh, we so badly hope this one is the true answer:
Garner, a good sport, joined the fun with a multiple-choice voiceover set to the moment that started it all:
I can’t believe she memed herself. What a treat. That Jennifer Garner’s a good egg.— bobby finger (@bobbyfinger) March 6, 2018
And maybe that's the point—we've ALL been Jennifer. (*Whoa!! What?! Let's dance that off.)
