This is not a drill, a joke, or a rumor. Muppet Babies is coming back. Repeat: MUPPET. BABIES. IS. COMING. BACK. We know, we know. We were super jazzed, too. Sure, the animation style is completely different, but we can totally forgive that. It's great to update shows so that a younger generation can connect with the material. We're still totally there. There's pretty much nothing that could make us hate on Muppet Babies. We're excited to see all of our old favorite characters on screen again. Or at least we were.
They're bringing the show back, yes, but they're doing it without Skeeter. Yeah, we lost our athletic, intelligent girl-muppet and she's being replaced by a penguin named Summer, who we hope represents for the "tomboy" and balances out Piggy's ultra-girliness the same way Skeeter did.
Fans aren't thrilled, though.
AND I JUST LEARNED THEY'RE BRINGING BACK MUPPET BABIES WITHOUT SKEETER. WHEN WILL THE PAIN END?— Sean B. Johnson (@seanbrjo) January 25, 2018
Are they keeping Scooter?!!! That is just wrong!— crosbieclan (@crosbieclan) January 28, 2018
Muppet Babies is coming back with a new Muppet called Summer, who we have never seen as an adult Muppet. Which is quite sad, maybe Summer dies in a heartbreaking series finale? YOU DON'T KNOW! oh and Skeeter is not in the new show, apparently. All she had was Muppet Babies! pic.twitter.com/rlkuRPXWMQ— Jimmy "I am here for the food" Brown (@ShiftyBea) January 27, 2018
But not everyone is mad about this:
Skeeter was just a gender swap of Scooter anyway. I've always kind of seen those as BS ways to shoehorn in female characters. An original character is a better idea I think.— Blackbird (@BlackbirdFrost) January 28, 2018
I think it’s because Skeeter’s backstory is so dark. I mean, Nanny stole a human child from a family that trusted her and then kept him locked in a room in a home with the random animals and mutated freaks she dressed as people! You know how much therapy he needed?!#MuppetBabies— Adam Gray (@The_Brute_Choir) January 28, 2018
Breaking my Twitter silence to share, finally, the delightful new Muppet created by our team: Summer Penguin!! She's so cute and this show is SO FUN and I can't wait for everyone to see more Muppet Babies!!!! #muppetbabies #summerpenguin #yaaaay https://t.co/fb9LILutRy— Niki Lytton (@nikilytton) January 25, 2018
While fans are over here discussing dark origins and possible screen deaths, this guy is just like:
Save this tweet and pull it out again when you watch grown adults get mad that the new MUPPET BABIES is for children.— John Gholson (@gholson) January 25, 2018
Solid point, John... but still. We're salty.
