Baby Driver writer/director Edgar Wright was up early Tuesday morning touting his Nostradamus skills on Twitter. After waking up to three Academy Award nominations, Wright detailed three predictions he made in 2015 — all about Baby Driver and its crew. He finished by reminding Kumail Nanjiani that there was a fourth prediction that had come true that morning: that Nanjiani and his writing partner/wife, Emily V. Gordon, would win an Oscar nomination.
But the nomination meant Nanjiani had lost a not-so-tasty bet.
Nanjiani wasted no time in answering his friend's call to collect on that wager:
Fans seemed delighted by the nominations and the friendship itself:
Nanjiani paid his debt — and Wright had the receipts for Twitter.
I love Brussels Sprouts. Mr @kumailn does not. Last year I said he and @emilyvgordon would be nominated for Original Screenplay at the 2018 Oscars and that if I was right he had to eat a bowl of sprouts. So last night we celebrated with that classic combo: champagne and sprouts. pic.twitter.com/7bHRaMa0tD— edgarwright (@edgarwright) January 25, 2018
The Twitterati predicted big things for Kumail in the kingdom of the sprout:
Double plot twist: He always loved Brussels Sprouts.— Wombat, CAGCast Co-host, 89% Jewish, 6% Norse God. (@NewWombat) January 25, 2018
The Brussels sprouts were in his heart the whole time.— chicken 'n' grits (@babyclownface69) January 26, 2018
Sadly, he disappointed them all with this admission:
Not so fast Kumail...
I have it. If you win, you have to eat an Oscar made of Sprouts.— edgarwright (@edgarwright) January 25, 2018
The exchange left more than one Twitter user pondering this question:
