The critics and fans were rather ungenerous with Suicide Squad after a lengthy promotional push promised us a different kind of superhero ensemble movie and the actual movie was just... odd.
[Spoilers for the two-year-old movie lie beyond, folks.]
Nevertheless, Warner Bros is moving forward with the sequel. But they didn't sit everybody down and explain how surprises in sequels are supposed to work, because the presence of one cast member implies the return of a character who totally dies at the end.
Joel Kinnaman will be reprising his role as Rick Flagg, Jai Courtney is returning as Captain Boomerang, and there's Jay Hernandez, whose Diablo bravely and nobly sacrificed himself to save the day in the emotional climax of the first movie. And here he is with his bros in an Instagram photo dated January 18th, 2018, while said bros are gearing up for the second. Makes you think.
Then again, we're talking about it, and that's good for the movie. So just try to act surprised, I spose.
Nobility in the DC Extended Universe might just buy you an extra life, even as a Suicide Squaddie.
