Caroline Rhea Explains How A Bad Break-Up Led To Her Role On 'Sabrina The Teenage Witch'

It's shocking how close the world was to being deprived of Aunt Hilda from Sabrina the Teenage Witch! Caroline Rhea, who played the character for six seasons, recently attended Stan Lee’s L.A. Comic Con.

Rhea told the story of why she accepted the role after initially turning it down.

Rhea told EW that a bad breakup was a major factor in her coming on board:

I had just gotten back from this horrible trip to Hawaii with the boyfriend and the trip was so bad that we broke up before the pictures were developed. And we had a polaroid — it was before phones.

The show's creator, Nell Scovell, called and described of the magical role:

She said, ‘She’s a witch and she’s recently imprisoned the man that didn’t love her in her ring.' And I was like, ‘I’ll do it!'

After her time on Sabrina, Rhea hosted her own daytime talk show, The Caroline Rhea Show. Now, she spends her time touring as a stand-up, as the voice of Linda Flynn-Fletcher on Disney's Phineus and Ferb, and as a regular contestant on ABC's Match Game with Alec Baldwin.

And to think all of this might not have happened if Rhea's trip to Hawaii had gone well:
