Robert Downey Jr. Gives A Tour Of His Hamptons Home--And We Want To Go To There

Robert Downey Jr. and his wife, producer Susan Downey, hosted Architectural Digest in their home in East Hampton. During the visit, Downey Jr. told the magazine crew:

We didn't set out to do something conspicuously wacky—we just enjoy a bit of whimsy and fun.

Really? Tell that to the giant preying mantis right outside the windmill.

The Downeys gave AD a "Cribs"-style tour, showing off some of the quirkier aspects of their home:

The couple told designers how important it was that the home exude a sense of comfort and safety. They are, after all, raising two children there.

But the Downeys also "wanted something we haven’t seen a million times."

They definitely achieved that goal:

Downey Jr. commented on what working with the designers and decorators was like:

Part of the joy of working with Joe is sharing his excitement about reaching out to these incredibly talented artisans. These kinds of collaborations require a leap of faith, but that’s part of the fun. We enjoy the experimentation.

That seems pretty clear to anyone who visits and gets a glimpse of the art.

In case you were wondering, Andrius Petkus created that cool preying mantis:
