The Capes In ‘Game Of Thrones’ Are Actually Inexpensive Rugs From IKEA
YouTube

Game Of Thrones has become the most popular show on television since its premiere in 2010.

The production value of the series has been praised time and time again.

Each episode has a budget of about $10 million, and no doubt, with all those lavish costumes, right?

Wrong.

Michele Clapton, a costume designer on the show, tells us a dirty little secret about the costumes while speaking at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles, California:

"These capes are actually IKEA rugs. It's a bit of a truth. We take anything we can.We cut, shave them, add strong leather straps and then breakdown, which is like a religion on Game of Thrones.I want the audience to almost smell the costumes. Here they were waxed and frosted so they belonged to the landscape."

WE KNEW NOTHING, JON SNOW.

And Clapton has won three Emmy awards for her work with IKEA rugs.  Something to think about next time you go shopping.
