After Demi Lovato relapsed with cocaine and Opioids and was found unconscious from an apparent overdose, fans weren’t willing to let the incident go without placing the blame on somebody.
While the singer recovers from her overdose, battling complications from infections but expected to make a full recovery, her most devoted fans started to point fingers at one of her backup dancers.
Dani Vitale has been working with the former Disney Channel star for nearly 10 years and fans put her at the top of their list of suspects. Unwilling to let those rumors take off, however, Vitale took to Twitter on Sunday night with an open letter tweet.
“I care about Demi just like all of you do,” the open letter starts. “I have not said anything about this situation until now because her recovery has been of the most importance.”
Vitale didn’t make the entire letter about herself and accusations that she was involved in the singer’s relapse, but she was sure to clear the air. “I was not with Demi when the incident happened, but I am with her now, and will continue to be because she means the world to me just as she does to all of you.”
For the most part, people responded positively to Vitale’s open letter.
Let her know that we love her and we just want the best for her, we just want her to be as happy and healthy as possible, and that no matter what it takes, she’ll always have people who love her unconditionally.— Mads 🏳️🌈 (@mmllovatic) July 30, 2018
I’m so confused... I haven’t said anything to you because I don’t know how things really happened. And I can’t blame you or anyone but this is really sad… all I know is that she was very lonely and nobody did anything to stop her and offer help— 𝓝𝓲𝓷𝓲𝓫𝓮𝓽𝓱 🦋 (@gabysthoughts) July 30, 2018
Unfortunately for Vitale, however, not everyone was as forgiving. What she did leave out from her open letter was that Lovato was at Vitale’s birthday party.
none of this takes away the fact that you STILL partied with her, knowing demi has history with addiction & clearly, all of you enabled her. we may not know the full story, but you can’t stand around and act like a victim when we know what you did.— ᴊᴏᴄᴇ ｡ (@jjxcehdz) July 30, 2018
Some feel that putting Lovato in an environment with addictive substances puts some of the blame of Vitale, which creates a discussion on willpower and addiction
She needed sober support and you didn’t offer that. You guys drank, partied with her and did god knows what right in front of her face. You think that didn’t put pressure and stress on her?! If she says it didn’t she’s lying, and you should know better. My god— Casey Wilkinson (@cjxwilkinson) July 30, 2018
yes but demi is an adult capable of making adult decisions such as leaving the party— Nat (@thenamebenat) July 31, 2018
Though finding someone to blame may be a priority for Lovato’s sincerest fans, what’s most important is her recovery. While she’s still hospitalized and making her recovery, whether or not she will attend rehab still hasn’t been confirmed.
