Ever since Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson began his transition from pro wrestling to acting, he has enjoyed a meteoric rise to screen stardom playing... well, pretty much Dwayne Johnson. From summer blockbusters to comedies, action, and family films, The Rock always seems to be playing his signature down to earth, goofy, badass self, and there's no denying it's part of what's made him an international superstar. And it seems he may be truly one of a kind.
Twitter users were scratching there heads trying to figure out who might be The Rock's female counterpart:
Got into an intense argument today with people trying to figure out the female equivalent to The Rock. I got heated because she does not exist. we as a society do not like women enough to have one— hans zimmer BWAHHHH sound (@GraceSpelman) March 27, 2018
They started with a few candidates who didn't quite hit the mark:
Kristen Bell has not been in any serious action blockbusters— hans zimmer BWAHHHH sound (@GraceSpelman) March 27, 2018
closest I can come up with is Queen Latifah (has done a bunch of musicals, comedies, etc) but I think she still has way more range— Meg Osborn (@actualmeg) March 27, 2018
But then they started to narrow down the criteria:
if you are naming actresses who have played many different roles, you are not finding the right equivalent. The Rock almost always plays the same type of character. Like, he even wears the same shirts— hans zimmer BWAHHHH sound (@GraceSpelman) March 27, 2018
I'm trying to think of someone who is 90% charisma and 10% skill and still commands huge $$ and big projects— recognize. (@jenihead) March 27, 2018
Jennifer Aniston. She plays Jennifer Aniston in every role she’s ever been in.— Fatimah Kabba (@fatimahkabba) March 27, 2018
this is what a lot of people were saying today but she's never been the Big Hero in any action movie!— hans zimmer BWAHHHH sound (@GraceSpelman) March 27, 2018
Finally, they started getting closer...
The closest I can get is Milla Jovovich. Even outside the Resident Evil series, she's starred in a ton of action movies.— Philip (@bottlebot) March 27, 2018
it's Sandra Bullock 20 years ago. Lots of action movies, romcoms, family friendly stuff and a pretty surprising lack of range despite it.— Tails from the Cryptid (@MF_Patsquatch) March 27, 2018
It was a tough question, but Twitter eventually found the answer. Which actress can take on action, comedy, and family...?
