In celebration of Charles Barkley hosting this week's episode of Saturday Night Live, Uproxx editor Brian Grubb tweeted an image from Barkley's 1993 SNL appearance alongside Nirvana, Muggsy Bogues, and RuPaul.
The still is basically a da Vinci fresco of '90s royalty and high drag.
Twitter users rightfully gave the icons a standing ovation:
So Rupaul, Mugsy Boges, Charles Barkley, Kurt Cobain and Dave Grohl walk into a bar....— Jon Heaberlin (@Liljonnyrancid) March 4, 2018
Wow what a picture! A true talent like that only comes along every so often and it’s rare to see him in that sort of a setting. Thank you for sharing this incredible image of Muggsy Bogues.— derek schwartz (@derek_mafs) March 4, 2018
This is remarkable. I still remember the SNL sketch of Sir Charles trash talking and beating up Barney while playing one on one.— Rhonda Nagler (@nagler_rhonda) March 4, 2018
The image also strained some heartstrings with its visually arresting summation of the decade:
Once upon a time, the absurd coexisted with brilliant minds, and music that spoke to you, and nobody ate Tide pods. Except maybe Belushi. But that was ok.— kellymterry (@kellymterry) March 4, 2018
From Nirvana to RuPaul to that cantaloupe-colored suit, this is peak ‘90s!!— Alyssa Hertzig (@alyssahertzig) March 4, 2018
I’m saving this photo for when my kid asks “what we’re the 90s like?”— Wade Wilson (@FreshprinceWade) March 4, 2018
And for the rest of the day, Twitter recalled other favorite moments with these stars:
Anyboby remember when Sir Charles bounced the basketball off shaq's big stupid head on national TV. That shit was funny.gotta find a clip of that. expression on shaquille's face is priceless.— Frank Furter (@ludicrousfiasco) March 4, 2018
The '90s may belong to another century but, as we've seen, the decade will live on in the hearts of nostalgic tweeters for years to come.
