On Saturday, German Chancellor Angela Merkel's office released a photo of Merkel confronting President Donald Trump at the G7 Summit in La Malbaie, Quebec, Canada.
The photo shows Merkel standing and leaning into Trump who is sitting with his arms crossed. He is surrounded by other leaders from Japan, France and the UK, all of whom are standing and watching Merkel as she speaks with Trump.
Many people didn't even believe the photo was real at all.
Trump is so weirdly positioned in this photo it looks photoshopped.— Don't wash your pits in the river of Sacred Tears (@MaestraOogway) June 9, 2018
But others are analyzing what they see.
Looks like Chancellor Merkel is leading the meeting, Trump is being smug non receptive with arms clinched. Everyone else has had enough waiting for an intelligent answer & Trumps about to cry or have a temper tantrum.— Bill (@Billitico) June 9, 2018
Angela Merkel looks like a principal questioning a naughty student surrounded by teachers— Savitha prabhu (@Savithaprabhu1) June 10, 2018
There's almost a deeper meaning to this picture. All the other leaders are standing and literally talking down to him, but Trump still feels smug and powerful. That's what's been happening on the world stage.— 🅴🅼🅸🅻🆈 (@emily__wight) June 9, 2018
Look at Trump's body language. His arms are crossed as Angela Merkel is speaking, signaling defensiveness and resistance.— Anita (@Aneetchkoo) June 10, 2018
Some people take the photo as a clear sign of the United States' place in the world in the era of Trump.
Don’t let Angela Merkel’s disappointed expression distract from the fact that everyone else in that photo thinks Trump is a fucking idiot.— Michael Blackman (@mikerblackman) June 9, 2018
A picture says a 1000 words. No matter how he obsessively harnesses his raging insecurity and jealousy in trying to demean/delegitimize him, @POTUS will never, ever EVER be even 1/100th the successful and popular man and president @BarackObama is. Ever. #Trump #obama #G7 pic.twitter.com/zHS53f5mLm— Andy Ostroy (@AndyOstroy) June 10, 2018
But some found the chance to poke some fun at the president too hard to resist.
While some couldn't resist doing a few alterations to the official photo.
The photo came out just a day after Trump pushed for the reinstatement of Russia into G7, returning the organization to the original "G8." This calls for readmission of Russia after President Barack Obama spearheaded their suspension in 2014 after Russia illegally annexed the Crimean peninsula from Ukraine.
Trump is known for allegedly colluding with Russia during the 2016 Presidential Election. But Trump's push to reinstate Russia wasn't the only time during the summit that he met with resistance.
In fact, France dubbed this year's G7 Summit "G6 +1."
John Bolton, National Security Advisor to Trump who appears in the now famous photo, shared his own reaction to it, putting the European and Asian leaders into the known war hawk's crosshairs:
