A week after the world watched the strange and at times awkward frenemy bromance between Donald Trump and France's President Emmanuel Macron in Washington D.C., it seems Macron is taking his own show on the road. While addressing the Australian prime minister Malcolm Turnbull at a news conference, Macron stated:
I want to thank you for your welcome, you and your delicious wife for your warm welcome.
Yes, you read that correctly. He called the Australian Prime Minister's wife, "delicious."
Here, listen for yourself.
Now to be fair, the slip is most likely a simple mistake when translating from his native French to English.
But since Macron left the White House, it's been a little dull around here. So let Twitter have it's fun.
Some could relate to mixing up words.
He shouldn't feel bad. I once told my in laws I loved the dessert. Unfortunately, said dessert I used a long vowel instead of a short one and ended up saying I liked the diarrhea. So it could be worse!— Sugar Lafever (@SugarLafever) May 2, 2018
Some folks figured, let the French be French. Or as they say C'est la vie.
Macron just said he wanted to thank Malcolm Turnbull and his "delicious wife".— Alice Workman (@workmanalice) May 2, 2018
You can take the man out of France but...
We're all human and it's good to have a giggle at ourselves. (Cough) White House correspondents dinner.
