President Trump's longtime lawyer, Michael Dean Cohen, admitted last month to using $130,000 of his own money just days before the 2016 election to ensure the silence of adult film star Stormy Daniels about her alleged affair with Trump. The Wall Street Journal is now reporting that Cohen complained to friends that he'd not been reimbursed for the payment.
Twitter users were less than sympathetic:
It’s like The Three Stooges vs The Keystone cops with this administration.— Deb S. (@DebShaw18) March 5, 2018
Thoughts and prayers on getting that money back Cohen.🤣— Libby Hitchcock (@LibbyHitchcock) March 5, 2018
Well, that's just scored a perfect 10 in both the 'Sleaze' and 'Corruption' categories.— Lissa Evans (@LissaKEvans) March 5, 2018
He's COMPLAINING now?? Last week he was BRAGGING that he used his own money. What happened, did his God Emperor give him a verbal wedgie for his inept explanation?— Karen J (@KaJo503) March 5, 2018
Several people pointed out that, given Trump's history, Cohen should have seen it coming:
Trumpf track record should’ve told you something 😂😂— Brit think wings of steele (@_greatbike) March 5, 2018
Man, you'd think if anyone knows Trump doesn't pay his contractors, it would be his lawyer.— Richard Frankel (@frankelrichard1) March 5, 2018
And, as is increasingly common these days, Russia and potential ruin entered the conversation:
Hey Cohen, you know who can help you get your money back? Mueller. Start talking 😈🤣— Tweetlicious_MK (@Tweetlicious_MK) March 6, 2018
Cohen is neck-deep in Mueller’s investigation too. This could be a critical mistake on trump’s part. A lot of people have gotten revenge for a lot less than $130 large.— Pat Kelly (@pkpaddaddy) March 5, 2018
If Cohen's past devotion to Trump is any indication, this won't place too much strain on their relationship. After all, surely the President just hasn't seen the invoice... right? Right?
