Vice President Mike Pence and Kim Jong Un's sister, Kim Yo Jong, sat near each other during the Olympic opening ceramony, but the two had zero interaction. They shared a box with South Korean President Moon Jae-in and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe but when everyone in the box stood for the united team of North and South Korea, Pence and his wife stayed firmly planted in their seats refusing to rise.
In an apparent move to prove a political point, Pence and his wife only stood for The U.S. team.
Hmmm.... where have we seen this sort of protest before?
People wasted no time pointing out Pence's hypocrisy after he famously stormed out of a football game in faux shock that players on the field were taking a knee during the National Anthem.
After all the whining about black football players kneeling, Mike Pence displays his unapologetic hypocrisy by refusing to stand for the host country during the #OpeningCeremony— Shomeo (@SassBaller) February 10, 2018
I bet he would kneel for the Tongan flag bearer, though. 😈 #Olympics pic.twitter.com/WAQJKJ71aZ
Did Mike Pence Kaepernick? Protesting national anthems at sporting events should rightfully be termed “Kaepernick” Headlines would read, “Mike Pence Kaepernicks at the Winter Olympics” or “Trump demands VP to Kaepernick at Winter games” 😂😂😂😂😂 Karma is funny— really? 1. Kaepernick is a private citizen, Pence represents our entire country.— lexi (@lexxxi_xox) February 10, 2018
2. South Korea is not only the HOST country for this Olympics but is a very important ally to the United States.
So misguided and done while acting as an agent of the US. https://t.co/FjSpseITWe
It seems Pence hasn't been winning over too many people on this trip.
I just loved the whole F-Trump opening to the Olympics last night. From all Koreans coming in together under one blue flag of peace, to Pence & “mother” forced to sit in front of Kim’s sister, to the popular Korean singers joining together to sing John Lennon’s “Imagine” - BOOM!— Michael Moore (@MMFlint) February 10, 2018
Major screw-up at VIP reception before PyeongChang Olympics opening ceremony: VP Pence showed up late, after dinner had begun, and there was no seat for him because he was supposed to have dinner with the US athletes...— Anna Fifield (@annafifield) February 9, 2018
Meanwhile, as Pence was arriving in South Korea for the Olympic ceremony, Kim Jung Un, in a ridiculous show of power, was overseeing a massive military parade.
Uh... wait a second didn't Trump just...
Okay, now we see how it works. Them: Sitting in protest, bad. Us: Sitting in protest, good. Them: Military parades, bad. Us: Military parades, good.
