You may have heard about the impending nuptials of Prince Harry and actress Meghan Markle. As with any royal wedding, curating a guest list is tricky business. While most people deal only with figuring out which friends and family to invite, royals must also decide which heads of state to invite.
According to Mashable, when CNN's Piers Morgan interviewed President Trump on Sunday, he asked whether or not he had been invited...
Trump replied: 'Not that I know of.' He didn't say whether he'd like to go, but said: 'I want them to be happy. I really want them to be happy. They look like a lovely couple.' ... Morgan then chipped in to let Trump know that Markle had called him a 'divisive misogynist.' 'Well, I still hope they're happy,' Trump replied.
Many understood the royal pair's reticence:
Trump is dispised by people all over the World for racism bigotry lies accepted by Leaders has isolated US from our allies— Linda (@llharley1991) January 29, 2018
It's a wedding, not a circus. They don't need a clown.— Jules Decker 🎭 (@decker_jules) January 28, 2018
Others imagined what would happen if he did attend, or who might go in his stead:
If he were to be invited he'd probably wear white and demand to walk Meghan down the aisle!— Willow Mayhem (@willowmayhem) January 28, 2018
Apparently he's not aware that he's NOT invited either.. I'd love to see him try to crash this wedding like he crashed the meeting in Davos....— Jacqueline Hunt (@JackieHunt812) January 29, 2018
A few people defended the President:
Fox, you're distorting things a bit with this lead. A younger son wouldn't likely invite a busy US #POTUS anyway. Heck, when Charles (1st in line to the Throne) married, only Nancy Reagan attended. And Harry is 6th in the Succession, very soon to be 7th. He's relative small fry.— Marie von Astra (@marievonastra) January 28, 2018
It's not likely that any heads of state will be invited to the Royal Wedding. Pres. & Mrs. Obama were not invited to William and Kate's wedding. The Foreign Office does not want the occasion to have any political overtones. Look for other royals, close friends, and celebrities.— Lyn Powell (@vlynpowell) January 29, 2018
Many people thought this story was a needless distraction:
Is that actually 'news' anyone cares about? No. Why don't you tell your viewers about the treason? The coup of 2016, assisted by Russia? The attempt to overthrow democracy? The sanctions against Russia that are supposed to happen tomorrow?— Deborah (@debi66) January 29, 2018
But mostly, people were amused:
“Trump not aware.” Can stop right there - applies to everything— Stormy President Dotard (@realworldrj) January 28, 2018
We wouldn't wait by our mailbox if we were you, Mr. President.
