In an interview with the Lincoln Journal two time former GOP Nebraska Senator and Secretary of Defense, Chuck Hagel said Donald Trump has "Intentionally divided the country and the world."
Hagel didn't stop there. He went on to say in an email in regards to Trumps latest comments in a meeting on immigration referring to Haiti, El Salvador and nations in Africa being “shithole” countries. :
"Donald Trump is doing great damage to our country internationally. He's an embarrassment."
He also took issue with the way Trump has handled relationships with both America's allies and foreign advisories. Saying about Trump's "nuclear button" tweet about North Korean leader Kim Jong Un,
“My button is bigger than yours' is irresponsible kind of talk .”
The Republican also had words of advice for current leaders of the GOP regarding the investigation into Russian interference with the election and the possibility of collusion with Trump's campaign:
"We take an oath of office not to a president, not to a party, not to a philosophy, but to the Constitution of the United States. I was philosophically a Republican with a conservative voting record, but that did not mean I would always go along with the party. In the end, you need to make a decision based on the right thing for the country."
Twitter was grateful that Hagel spoke out and urged other Republicans to do the same.
More people like Chuck should speak up about Trump’s racist ideology & hateful rhetoric! Very few people of stature have had the guts to speak out because they are worried Trump will attack them on Twitter. Amen, Americans either don't know or don't care how our country and it's leadership is seen by peoples of the world who used to admire our govt. & look to us in international matters. Coarseness & rudeness replace intelligence & diplomacy. Shameful times.— Elizabeth Phelps (@nebhuskergma) January 16, 2018
Yes, he is-What is sad is that there are people who are clapping along & thrilled that Trump is trashy & loud. Then they wonder why Trump isn’t treated with respect. If he wants to talk like an uneducated, bigot in a small town bar in the Midwest he will get treated as such.— Jennifer (@jenlgeiger1) January 16, 2018

Amazing coincidence. Hadn’t thought about Sec. Def and Sen Hagel in years. Thought this morning how he’d stand up to @realDonaldTrump and how the country could use his strength and leadership. How bout it @GOP? @MittRomney @JeffFlake @LindseyGrahamSC @BobCorker #shithole— Andrew (@southpawACT) January 15, 2018
Well, Republican leaders, what's it gonna be? We'll wait.
