Former CIA And NSA Director Slams Trump's 'Outrageous Assault' On CNN
Updated 6 months ago

On Saturday, November 25, President Trump tweeted another direct attack on CNN, an independent media company he claims has covered him unfairly.

This isn't the first time the President has alleged that CNN knowingly publishes lies, a statement with monumental implications that Trump has offered no evidence to support. This time, however, Trump's attack on the press has elicited a response from General Michael Hayden, former director of both the CIA and NSA.

General Hayden tweeted back at Trump:

Twitter was incredibly supportive of the Hayden's stand:

Trump's attacks on free speech have not gone unnoticed by Hayden, particularly when it comes to the President's condemnation of football players who kneel during the national anthem to protest police brutality.

Hayden released a statement about Trump's opposition to players who #TakeAKnee:

As a 39-year military veteran, I think I know something about the flag, the anthem, patriotism, and I think I know why we fight. It’s not to allow the president to divide us by wrapping himself in the national banner.

Though his words were tinged with melancholy, Twitter encouraged Hayden to keep fighting the good fight:

There were others who thought his words were out of place...

But most of Twitter thanked him for his frank message.

Though America is embroiled in partisan turmoil, this may pass if we listen to each other and act rationally.
