.@FoxNews is MUCH more important in the United States than CNN, but outside of the U.S., CNN International is still a major source of (Fake) news, and they represent our Nation to the WORLD very poorly. The outside world does not see the truth from them!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 25, 2017
This isn't the first time the President has alleged that CNN knowingly publishes lies, a statement with monumental implications that Trump has offered no evidence to support. This time, however, Trump's attack on the press has elicited a response from General Michael Hayden, former director of both the CIA and NSA.
Sir, it is with the most genuine sincerity I say thank you LTG Hayden for your 40 years of service. We need more brave men and women like you now more than ever!— DJ Space Kadet (@dj_spacekadet) November 26, 2017
Trump's attacks on free speech have not gone unnoticed by Hayden, particularly when it comes to the President's condemnation of football players who kneel during the national anthem to protest police brutality.
As a 39-year military veteran, I think I know something about the flag, the anthem, patriotism, and I think I know why we fight. It’s not to allow the president to divide us by wrapping himself in the national banner.
Gen Hayden please don't despair but speak for those of us who are terrified and disgusted. You have respect of your peers please push forward— hutch (@arthutchinson2) November 27, 2017
Sir, with all due respect, I disagree and find your opinion more harmful to our Country than helpful. Your version of Truth and his may differ, but you stoop lower than him when you, of all people, disrespect the office and the Nation with your words.— Donald Ingram (@Chief28Ret) November 27, 2017
You have not wasted anything! Your service is invaluable. Thank you. Knowing the military will defend this country and not become a tool of oppression helps many of us cope with what is happening. I may not have faith in POTUS, but I believe in this country and those who serve.— Ateacherfirst (@AuntieTeaches) November 27, 2017
